School Meals
School Meals
At Lowerplace School we offer a wonderful varied menu, prepared lovingly by our Catering Team.
The menus change weekly and run on a three week cycle. 2025 Menu
All food is prepared on the premises and we cater for all dietary needs. All meat at the school is Halal and we ensure there is always a vegetarian option. In addition to hot food, the pupils are also able to choose a 'grab bag’, which has a sandwich, fruit, biscuits and a drink in. The pupils are always able to choose fresh fruit and we have a salad bar.
If children do not want a school meal, they can bring a packed lunch. We ask that this does not contain fizzy drinks, chocolate, chewing gum or nuts please.

Universal Free School Meals (UFSM)
For children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, their school meal is free of charge under the Universal Infant Free School Meal scheme.
Free School Meals (FSM)
Free school meals are different to Universal Free School Meals.
| We ask all parents of children from Reception to Year 6 to apply for Free School Meals even if they already receive Universal Free School Meals. |
We can apply on your behalf using our FSM application form from the school office or online here.
Once you receive your letter of confirmation of entitlement from the LA please bring this to the school office to update our records.
If parents are awarded FSM the child will benefit from:
- a hot meal each day
- as a school we receive funding based on the number of FSM. So, it is vitally important that we receive all the money for our children that we are entitled to.
- receiving food vouchers during each school holiday (Please note that this is subject to change by the Government)
Paying for School Meals
For children in Years 3 - 6, who are not entitled to FSM the school meals cost £14.25 per week and must be paid for in advance. Arrears must not be allowed to be accrued.
The school office cannot accept cash payments, but you can easily make payments & top up your wallet online via our School Ping! App. Please contact the office for any assistance.
Meal Changes
If you would like your child to change from Packed Lunches to School Meals, or vice versa, you must speak to a member of staff in the School Office (not your child's teacher). Parents are asked to give notice by 3:30pm on Thursday the week before you would like to swap, so we can adjust the number of meals the school kitchen is making.
